Small Business Saturday is fast approaching!
What is Small Business Saturday?
It’s an annual shopping tradition dedicated to supporting small businesses and celebrating communities across the country. Founded by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday is celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year, you can get out and support the places you love with the people you love on Nov 28, 2020.
What is the Fallon Chamber doing to help this event?
The Fallon Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Fallon Maine Street Program (FMSP) and Churchill Economic Development Authority to help local businesses promote themselves during one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year. Here are some of the fun events we are doing throughout the day.
The Welcome Booth sponsored by the Fallon Chamber
At the Welcome Booth, we will have information about all of the different businesses participating in Small Business Saturday, whether they are Chamber members or not. We will also have all the rules and game pieces for the FMSP Scavenger Hunt and the CEDA #GurkaInBusiness Photo Contest.
The Small Business Saturday – Fallon Facebook Event hosted by the Fallon Chamber
The Chamber is hosting an online event to help promote all the sales happening on that Saturday. Businesses that have signed up to participate in Small Business Saturday through the Chamber, whether a member or not, will be allowed to post once a week in the event leading up to November 23. On November 30th, the Chamber will be running the event online and promoting flash sales throughout the day for Chamber members only that have signed up and sent in their information on time. The Scavenger Hunt – Sponsored by the Fallon Maine Street Program
Businesses will have the opportunity to bring customers into their stores through this fun and engaging game. There are only two requirements. Your business must be a member of the FMSP, and you must contribute something to the prize basket. Each scavenger sheet has enough spaces for five businesses. Last Year we had 15 businesses participate, so we had 3 different trivia scavenger hunts going on at the same time. Customers names will be entered into a drawing for every page they complete.
HERE’S A BIG TIP!!! The Scavenger Hunt asks customers to find out something about your business. Last year, one business made the question about a product that was on sale. *Hint*Hint*
#GurkaInBusiness Photo Contest – Sponsored by Churchill Economic Development Center and Small Business Development Center
Here is another fantastic opportunity to get customers through your doors. After you sign-up for this city-wide, “Where is Waldo” style Gurka hunt, we will send you a picture of the Greenwave Gurka. Place him in your store, maybe showcasing your sale item. Your store will be placed on the lookout list, and customers will come looking. Once they find him, they will take a picture, post it online using the hashtag #GurkaInBusiness, and they will check in at your store. For each picture a customer takes at a different store, their name will be entered into a drawing.
