Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber at higher than normal atmospheric pressure. It is used to treat various medical conditions, including:
Wound Healing: HBOT can promote healing of non-healing wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers, radiation injuries, and crush injuries.
Decompression Sickness: HBOT helps remove nitrogen bubbles from the blood and tissues that can form during scuba diving or other underwater activities.
Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: HBOT increases oxygen levels in the body to counteract the effects of carbon monoxide.
Osteomyelitis (Bone Infection): HBOT can improve oxygen delivery to infected bones and promote healing.
Avascular Necrosis: HBOT can help restore blood flow to areas of bone that have lost their blood supply.
